I have been mistaken with my calling for a ratification of UNCLOS United Nations Commission Law of the Sea and appraisal of Mr Harper in his funding of surveying the sea bed so as to lay claim to our continental shelf.

UNCLOS was ratified in 2003

UNCLOS while allowing for the claiming of the continental shelf out to 350 N Miles doesn't include the fish in the water past the 200 mile EEZ so will do nothing to help protect and rebuild the fish stocks by banning foreigners from the nose tail and flemmish cap once it can be proven it lies withing the 350 N Miles accorded by UNCLOS.

That is why the UNFA agreement was made to allow for what is called straddling stocks like cod which migrate out past the 200 mile EEZ and hence we have no jurisdiction according to UNCLOS. Hence we have been stuck with NAFO with our hands tied behind our back while our fish stocks and habitat are being destroyed on our continental shelf pst the 200 mile EEZ by foreigners.

So the only interest Mr Harper has with surveying the continental shelf is to protect the resources under the sea bed and will do nothing to protect the endangered fish species and their habitat.

There are some provisions in UNCLOS that would allow us to ban bottom trawling past the 200 EEZ as a habitat protection initiative but Canada is actively campaigning against this campaign.

So either UNCLOS needs to be amended to include the fish in the water past the 200 mile EEZ and the entire continental shelf or?

I'm just amazed at the ineptitude with which this resource has been mismanaged and continues to this day. It is beyond comprehension the weak kneed approach and general malaise that Canada has shown towards the Atlantic Canadians pleight with regards to the fishery. It really leaves one wondering if there isn't more things at work behind the scenes here than just fish because if it were just fish and fish habitat the position and path to follow would be more than apparent and not even new because it has been done is several other locations, Greenland United States where they unilaterally laid claim to their entire Continental shelfs and not just the sea bed past the 200 mile EEZ.

30,000 Atlantic Canadians were put out of work since this travesty has come to a head and still continues to this day.
