March 31 Canada Day
WJM makes a good point and doesn't even know it. He did a Blog a while back called Canada Day in which he spews some verbal diarria about Newfoundland/Labrador nationalism and or day of remembrance July 1 to mark the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont Hamel.
Unwittingly he gave me the idea that Canada day should actually be march 31 because that is the day the last piece of the puzzle which we now know as Canada fell into place. Not July 1 which is was and will always remain a national day of mourning in NL.
My comments on his blog.
You know WJM you make a good point by posting this on the very day Canada actually became whole. The day Newfoundland/Labrador completed Canada is the day that should be celebrated not July 1 which is was and will always be a day of mourning for Newfoundland/Labradorians because of the Battle at Beaumont Hamel where 801 NL'ians went over the hill and the next day only 8 showed up for roll call.
This isn't a Patriotism issue this is just highlight of the disrespect and contempt Canada has shown and continues to show towards NL then and now.
From failing hands we pass the torch.
Forget me nots are the official flower of remembrance.
If NL'ians weren't to wear black arm bands on July 1 I would think it disrespectfull personally towards the fallen no matter what country they were and are from.
Canada should rectify this terrible injustice and change Canada day to march 31 which is the actual day Canada became a whole country.
Sorry not thinking very straight today so you may have to read between the lines.
