Chairman Williams is dreaming By Averill Baker
I've often wondered about just this topic, and how the numbers really played out as opposed to the perception that is propagated by the uneducated and ignorant. From my studying of the numbers it just seemed far fetched now here it is in Black and white in a publication clearly spelling out the falacies of Equalization and how NL is getting hand outs.
Premier Danny Williams is dreaming in Technicolor if he really believes what he is saying about getting an agreement with the other provinces on equalization for 2007.
First of all, let’s get one thing straight about equalization – this province will get $587-million – that’s about one third of the amount Ottawa gives to New Brunswick in equalization; we get less than half the amount given to Nova Scotia; and less than one third the amount given to Manitoba. Quebec benefits the most from equalization – Quebec gets over half of the entire budget for the nation.
This province gets far less per capita than any of the other three Atlantic Provinces and we are even further behind Manitoba. In fact, Prince Edward Island gets twice as much per capita as this province gets from Ottawa in equalization payments.
So where does this idea come from that we get more equalization money from Ottawa than any other province? The truth is we are fifth lowest of the six provinces that get equalization money from Ottawa.
Two weeks ago, along comes a report from a panel of five experts.
Read the rest of the story of a Lie.

It's sickening isn't it! And we have people on openline talking about how people like Sue should leave if they don't like what this province has to offer or there I saw, what it's not getting fairly. The bigger problem with NL is not the politicians, it's not the foreign fleets dragging our ocean resources, it's not the wars, nor is the problem Alberta by taking our youth.
The problem with this province is the people - majority have no clue to whats going on, others have half the story, and whats left over is a bunch that would take every fish from the sea, pillage the wildlife, and destroy every blade of grass if there was a dollar to be made.
The problem is and always was US! We are too slack, too dosile, too willing to eat our own first! We are jokers of our own demise.

What is the big picture?
What is the root cause of our problems?
I think the obvious one would be the Democratic deficit in this Colonial/Federation
Another for NL specific would be the lack of control over our own detiny and resources. All or alot of our revenues from our Non-renewables resource revenues are getting clawed back with equalization. They give with one hand and take back with the other at the same time slapping us by saying we are a have not por begger province when the reality is we are one of the richest provinces in this farce of a country.
