Hunting > Hide Collection Program

When I was in Alberta they had this program where you donated your deer hide to an organization who tanned it and used the profits to help promote and conserve wild life.

I don't know if a program like this exists in Newfoundland and Labrador?

Of course it wouldn't bee deer hides on the Island anyway I'm not sure if Labrador has deer but they do have lots of Caribou as does NFLD.

These hides could be donated to native groups or a wildlife foundation for fund raisers instead of leaving them in the woods to rot.

These hides could be used to make mitts or traditional parkas instead of being wasted. I remember having a pair of Moose hide ski doo mitts as a youngster an they were awesome! But the best pair I even had were made from Seal skin.

The same could be said for the guts and non consumable parts they could be sold to rendering plants to turned into fish or animal food, Not cows because cows are vegetarians. .50$ a pound to help offset the cost of butchering maybe?

The tanned hides could be used in a Geodesic Dome igloo cabin or hotel more for show unless of course sleeping bags are used and the hide doesn't come into contact with skin because the cleaning costs would be astronomical.

Even Rabbit skins are being wasted in our province.

The waste from Moose combined with the discarded carcasses from the seal hunt would make a substantial source of raw materials for a fish and animal feed enterprise.

Question marks go at the end of questions.

i remember selling my moose hide back in the 70's.a guy was going around the area buying. he never paid much but the idea it was going to be used for something made a lot of us sell it to him.
