Bar codes on Money

The recent robbery in Britain from a cash sorting company made me think how can this be prevented.

The most obvious thing occured to me Bar codes on Money!

What use would it be to steal money if it was traceadle. Every dollar in a cash register, Bank, Instant teller everywhere had it's own unique bar code so that if it was stolen the minute it was used the and scanned the vendor would know that it was stolen money.

Since money is already traceable by serial number it wouldn't be much of a leap to add a bar code to coincide with this serial number. Since almost every transaction nowwadays is done using bar codes the infrastructure to implement this new security is already in place. Even in store theft would become traceable because all incoming money and outgoing money could be traced at all times. Exception being coins which wouldn't be such a big deal as compared to 50$ bills and 100$ bills.

Counterfitting would also become almost erradicated over night exceptions being stores or countries where bar code scanners aren't used. Then of course there is plastic money.

Where theres a will theres a way but at least one way would be eliminated.
