Not one mention of the fisheries in this press release?

Now is the time to have your concerns about the state of the fishery in NL addressed. Contact the PM and tell him you want him to broach the subject of the nose and tail of the Grand Banks while he is at the UN.

Comments:
Paul Martin has precisely the policy template needed to address some serious concerns in the way federal fisheries is managed. And oddly enough, it was a fellow Liberal who brought it to his attention - Roger Grimes!

Martin should immediately take a leadership role in international dealings with other fishing countries in order to assure cooperative management of common stocks and end fishing abuses, including foreign overfishing.

He should immediately take custodial management of the stocks on the Nose and Tail of the Grand Banks and the Flemish Cap.

He should adopt, with any interested coastal province or territory, a system of increased provincial management over fisheries through a system of joint management and joint fisheries councils modelled on the system proposed by unanimous resolution of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in May 2003 and as detailed in the government of Newfoundland and Labrador's (Grimes') white paper on the subject as released in 2003.

Martin should be working to eliminate unfair international trade bans on Canadian seal products.

Instead we have a Prime Minister that would rather do nothing and seriously harm this region as a result.
