NL Self sufficient voices
NL People are too self sufficient
They don’t need work as long as they are able to put food on the table from the fishing, hunting, trapping, berry picking, wood cutting (heat) live stock and gardening.
As long as people have the essentials namely Food and Shelter they are able to muddle through. Unlike the METROPOLISES where if they were to lose power and the steady influx of goods supplies and raw materials from the nether regions people would be dropping dead from frost bite, lack of food, and dependency upon the supply infrastructure. IE Ice storm, Toronto Snow storm, Eastern seaboard power outage.
Don’t get me wrong this is a good thing, but at the same time it makes people not so dependant on the Pie in the sky Ottawa. Thus not having to care so much about the politics of the Canadian federation and not make their voices heard.
Just highlights once again diversification and celebrating our differences, makes us stronger together, weaker divided.
The downside being that not having any work takes away from your self esteem and personal worth. With the finer things in life requiring a monetary income NL’eans are becoming more and more dependant on the world economy or pie in the sky Ottawa if you will. Maybe this downside could have a silver lining, in that now maybe NL’eans will find their voice and make them selves heard!
