Salt water Cowboys cod Ranch!

Catch and release cod farming?

I’m no fisherman but would it be possible to close of a harbour, bay, or fjord? Catch some cod and release them into this fish farm? All of the scraps from the fish plants could be used as food to feed the cod and over time you would have a natural self sustaining fish farm with no harm to the natural stocks because they are natural to begin with?

I heard a fisherman say on VOCM that at one time there were enough nets to go across the Atlantic and back seven times. If that is true I’m sure there are enough to close of all of the harbours and bays around NL.
Ice may be a concern with the nets? 45 gallon drums filled with expanding foam could be used as buoys or old propane tanks filled with expanding foam. If nets aren’t strong enough then maybe nets could be made from recycled tires could be used. Lord knows there are enough tires kicking around. If recycled tires are used there is a slush fund in Ottawa 5$ per tire for the use of recycled tires. Maybe by running an air hose on the bottom of the nets would be enough to deter the cod from leaving while at the same time aerating the water and preventing freeze up.

Here are some links to fish farming

None of these links use the method I am describing. They all use cages. I was unable to find any web pages describing what I've proposed here.
