Fishing communities Lower NL flag?
I say to you would it be irresponsible for NL'ers to lower the NL flag in protest to the mute representation of our Provincial government on behalf of the people of NL?
Would this further divide the people of NL therefore serving only to make us weaker as a political force accomplishing nothing. Pitting Bayman vs Townie, Newfoundland Vs Labrador.
Should we trust blindly in the silence of our provincial leaders, in the hope that they are working in the back rooms fighting for NL rights to have a fishery, despite Canada's continued abuse of the stocks by allowing foreigners to continue to work on the extinction of our fishery stocks.
While we ineffectively talk on talk shows, blog and grip in coffee shops.
Or are we giving our Premier ammo by fighting the good fight in public and allowing him to use our outrage as a bargaining chip. While he says nothing in public and fights behind closed doors in our interest. If anything his silence has inspired and outraged the NL people to become even more vocal, thus giving him more ammo with which to bargain?
It reminds me of the proverb "If a tree falls in the forest does anyone hear it?"
In NL case it would go like this "If a cod falls to the foreign trawlers does anyone care?"
I tend to believe he is using the publics outrage as a bargaining chip and won't speak up because if he does well all shut up and take away his bargaining power.
Stay quiet in public Mr Williams well fight the good fight. You raise your voice behind closed doors, bargaining for NL interests which is what you've proven to us your good at!
Your leaders are only as good as their people and the support they give them.
We've got some great people in NL but their support and faith is suspect at best. Mainly due to hardship and inequities and the failed Canadian experiment.
Maybe it is because of history with things like the battle of the Somme when 841 men and boys followed to their death leaving only 64.
