Community Access Centres

NL community access centres

If funding can’t be found in part or whole for these centres then the people could unite on behalf of their children and start a Co-op access centre.

Here are some Co-op info sites

Dial up is not an option. There are satellite systems available that will allow for high speed access.

Info sat high-speed satellite internet At 199$ a month this is a bargain for any small community to have an access center and access to the world via a high speed satellite hook up. If anybody has ever been on dial up and then got high speed they know.

When I was in Eureka on Elsmere Island, by far one of the most beautiful places in Canada IMHO, easily comparable to the bad lands of North Dakota and Drum Heller AB. We had a satellite link to the internet that was as good as any high-speed hook up I’ve ever had if not better, I tend to think better.

As it is a lot of our rural schools are being closed and their students being bussed longer distances. That’s all well and good but the least the government and school boards could do it give these communities high speed access for the students and communities to access research.

If you are from a rural community with no high speed access or access center email your premier department of education school board and suggest request an access center for your children to become better educated by having access to the world. And no, dial up is not access to the world. With the amount of graphics on the web today dial up is at best a nuisance. Maybe if you turned of pictures in your browser properties until you find what you’re looking for you might not waste half your life watching a blank screen.

Here are some examples of provincial community access centre web sites.
